We're all familiar with the Mario Kart franchise. Mario and co get in Karts and race each other for prize and poontang. It was inevitable that it would end up on the Wii (I still can't believe they called it Wii), but was the result worth it?

The game has changed a few things from previous games. For one, there are bikes in the game instead of just karts. Of course since bikes are awesome no one really uses the karts, they should have called it Mario's Boneriffic Bike Race. Also, you race against 11 people instead of 7. I don't know if this is good or bad, but it's interesting. You can do tricks in this game to get speed boosts. This is a double edged sword, as I'll discuss later.

The new tracks are pretty good, though some of them are basically remakes of older tracks. Do those cows look familiar? Maybe from Mario Kart 64? The game also has "classic tracks", which are graphically updated versions of older tracks. Some of these have aged better than others. Bowser's Castle from 64 is still good, but Ghost Valley from the SNES game is pretty dated. Plus it was designed with 5 laps in mind, but since MKW has 3 laps per race, it's over in a minute. These old tracks weren't designed with the tricks in mind, so it seems like they just stuck random ramps and speed boosts in the levels to make them more "modern".

The graphics and music are nice and the game controls very well. The Wheel controller that comes with the game works surprisingly well, though it takes a long time to get used to. So far I've been mostly positive, but I have one big complaint: The fucking items. This game is very unbalanced in that respect, your opponents get good items way too frequently. I've honestly been hit by a blue shell, red shell, green shell, bullet, another run shell, and then hit with a blooper in like 10 seconds. Since the AI in this game is always on your ass, you can go from first to last quite easily. Other than that it's a good game, but it really isn't any different from the other games in the series.
Overall: 7.8/10 - Fun game, but has flaws.
